Freeform hand-carved Acacia stump bowl. Starting the new year with a just-completed freeform bowl, made from an Acacia log that was sitting in my wood pile for years. It sat so long that it started to become spalted. This is where, after time, water works itself into the grain, turning isolated parts of it black. It is evident around the rim. I dyed the rim to match this natural discoloration. This was hollowed out by hand, with power tools. At its widest, it’s 16″, at its tallest, it’s 4″. BTW…I intended to chop this up for firewood. You can see in the upside-down photo where the axe struck it and left a gouge. I couldn’t split it, so I figured it had other plans.
